NZ Short Stay

I haven't been spending a lot of time in the water since I got back from our North Queensland trip, but I have been out and about.  I shot over the ditch to NZ for a long weekend to take in some scenery on the North Island.

It was a big weekend of sight seeing.  We flew into Auckland on Friday night, where we stayed for a few hours before getting on a scenic railway journey down to Wellington on Saturday morning.  It was a good way to see a lot of the country without having to drive ourselves - great for some power naps along the way!

So lots of very very green rolling hills, intermixed with some pine forests and some completely wild looking landscapes and a volcano or three.  Absolutely stunning time of year to go and see New Zealand.

The windy city was very windy on Sunday so we headed up to Kaitoke (where they shot Rivendell - LOTR) for some bushwalking after visiting the Galipoli display at the Museum.

By Monday the wind had blown itself out, turning the habour area into a picture perfect sea kayaking destination.

This is where they shot the "Black Gate" (LOTR).

So a quick visit to the Weta Studio's before heading back across the ditch to the land of OZ finished off a great weekend - many thanks to Suz for the surprise trip for my Birthday! We will be back in January with the whole (extended) family for a couple of weeks kicking off in Wellington and then onto the South Island.
